Free radicals are electrons, negatively charged particles, that are theorized/ hypothesized (I'm not sure how which it would be classified under, but that has little to do with this topic) to be the main reason why we age. Research has mainly focused on the cell mitochondria, the part of the cell responsible for producing most of its energy, because that is where they seem to appear mostly from. Why are free radicals harmful? Well, free electrons tend to want to bind with anything in order to cancel out their charge, what they bind to isn't always what they should be binding to, and thus can cause some very harmful mutations. Granted I started this post in order to give myself a starting block to build on for my paper, and to see what I needed to read most specifically on, but alas, you will learn something, most of you know about antioxidants, which help to "combat" against these free radicals that are produced, but a little something you should look into is http://discovermagazine.com/2002/oct/featradical/?searchterm=%20radical%20oxygen

Free Radicals
The main question arising for this blog, besides the fact that my very much unfinished paper is due in 10 hours, is what about free radicals?
